3rd Attempt on the Pacific Crest Trail
The trail has become so much a part of my life that it was strange not to step foot on it at all for two years. But that’s how life goes!
In 2024, I began my third PCT thru-hike attempt again at the Mexico-California border, heading northbound to Canada. I’ve had many people tell me that I should just hike the sections that I’m missing, but come on now – that wouldn’t be a real thru-hike! As testimony to the unsurpassed beauty of the trail, I’d most happily re-hike it all.
By the time I reached the high Sierra Nevada mountains, they were still holding a lot of snow, so I skipped up further north, thinking I would come back.
After injuring my shoulder, I waited weeks off-trail for it to heal. Thinking it was good enough to carry on, I hopped back on trail where I had left off my first year, headed southbound. After only 10 miles into the wilderness, my injured shoulder let me know I would be going no further. After a good cry, I turned back and got off trail for good. (Well, until next time!!!) I hiked 1,200 / 2,655 miles this year.
