Zero Days #2 & #3

Two backpacking bags propped on an Arizona Trail gate near Vail, Arizona.

Vail, Arizona

After we arrived in our second trail town, Vail, Arizona, we decided to take a double zero for Tom to ice his persistent knee injury.

We caught a ride back to Tucson, AZ to rest up in an affordable hotel. After two days, there was no change, and we decided to head back to Florida to have his knee examined by a doctor.

The doctor advised that Tom had torn the meniscus and needed 4-6 weeks to recover, in a knee brace.

And so ends our Arizona Trail Thru-hike attempt for 2023, after 112 miles, and just before entering Saguaro National Park.
