Day 17 | Mile 218.5 – 235.5

What a day! A day filled with rocks, sand, rocks, water, water, and water, and not much else, including a trail to follow. This entire area was ravaged by a hurricane last summer, and the trail essentially is the Mission Creek basin now.

For nine miles, I created my own trail amongst the rocks, boulders, and sand, crossing Mission Creek too many times to count.

I almost stayed dry, but towards the end as I began to tire, I slipped and got my shoes wet. It was a blessing in disguise, because I no longer had to take the time to find the best place to cross, I just marched right through after that! If that wasn’t hard enough, I gained over 3000′ elevation during those nine miles.
