Day 2 | Arizona Trail

Mile 9.3 – 22.8

We tried to get out of our tent early, but we were forced to stay cozy in our warm sleeping bags until the ice melted on the zippers of our tent. When we finally emerged, everything was covered in a fine layer of ice. Shaking off our tent, we produced enough snow a nice little snow cone – not that we were looking to enjoy a snow cone. Brrr!

Coronado National Forest

We hiked through the Coronado National Forest for most of the day, enjoying much easier terrain than the day before, although the trail was still very steep at times.

We haven’t seen as much wildlife as in Florida, so we were very excited when we spotted a buck while enjoying a sweeping view for lunch!

Water has still been plentiful, thank goodness! We both absolutely love the CNOC water bladders, and refuse to use anything else. We entered Miller Peak Wilderness, within Coronado National Forest.

We made camp among other hikers, next to a flowing creek and nestled in the boulders. The other hikers know us only by our trail names – Huffin (Tom) & Puffin (Elyse).
