Massive mountains covered in vivid greenery at Glacier National Park.

Day 2 @ Glacier National Park

A tall granite ridgeline rises above Bird Woman Falls in Glacier National Park.

We were able to get another permit, for a second day in the park. The permit was for the popular Going-to-the-Sun Road, which travels from west to east through the entire park. Our plan was to stop at some of the many, many trailheads along this road and hopefully get a couple hikes in!

Bird Woman Falls is one of many waterfalls in Glacier National Park, but has the distinction of being one of the tallest. Since the glacier that originally fed this waterfall has long since melted, it’s now fed mainly by rainfall and therefore no longer flows year-round.

We got an early start, but we noticed the crowds immediately. As we drove along the road our first three chosen trailhead parking lots were completely full. The great thing about the congested traffic was it meant we got to enjoy all the sweeping views from the comfort of the van!

Glacier National Park is breathtaking. Even though the air quality was not the finest during our visit, we couldn’t take our eyes off the park’s beauty. There were massive towering granite peaks in every direction, and they were largely covered with vivid greenery and dense shrubbery.

We reached the end of the road, and the end of the park. Neither of us were really keen on the idea of another crowded hike, so we decided it was time to move on in search of more peaceful land.
