Day 43 | Mile 653.3 – 669.9

An early start to the day means beautiful sunrise views! Although, since I take so much time enjoying the views, I’m not sure starting earlier is making too much of a difference.

Leaving Walker Pass, I began the last leg of the southern California desert – only 50 more miles until I go up into the High Sierra Nevada mountains. The landscape is beginning to transition already, from rolling hills to jagged, rocky peaks. But at lower elevations, the desert still remains prominent.

I camped at Spanish Needle Creek, along with many other hikers who’s days go from water source to water source to lessen the load we have to carry. Unfortunately, it was incredibly buggy and we retreated early to the comfort of our screened-in tents.
