Day 63 | Mile 1040.5 – 1049.5

After waking from a peaceful night’s rest, I retrieved my bear can and packed up before heading out at a lazy 7:15 AM.

“The trail provides,” the saying goes. Today, the trail provided an obstacle course of snow mounds, seasonal stream crossings, and blowdowns. I involuntarily glissaded during one section, breaking my trekking pole tip and losing a water bottle (which I was able to retrieve). Chatting with other hikers I met later, we exchanged stories of things we were glad no one saw us do…

I had the most magical trail magic experience served up by Limit Situation Trail Magic, a non-profit. They had personal pizzas with fresh basil, burgers, veggie burgers, pasta salad, kale salad, fruit salad, chips, hummus, cookies, brownies, sodas, teas, coffees, kombucha and that’s just lunch! Walking up, they asked about dietary restrictions, which to someone with one is always a wonderful thing. They even had fresh GF brownies AND cookies!

As if that wasn’t enough, they also had a bin of donated shoes and huge first aid kit. And to top that off, they also exchange worn out Darn Tough Vermont Socks for a fresh pair, through their outstanding lifetime guarantee.
