Day 65 | Mile 1070.1 – 1093.4

I have officially hiked my 1,000th mile on the PCT this year!!! Not only that, but I reached the end of the Sierra Nevada section, and will be moving on to the third and final section in California: Northern California. The Northern California Section runs until mile ~1,700 and ends at the Oregon border.

The trail celebrated this accomplishment with me in beautiful orange sunrise tones, spreading slowly from the mountain tops to warm the entire valley.

I hiked the entire day in my full body bug suit and head net, and let me tell you it was the envy of PCTers, day-hikers, and weekend campers alike. This section was very wet, with snow melting and flooding the trail, meadows, seasonal streams, and any and everywhere that the water could reach! The stops I made were few and far in between, due to the constant presence of those blood-sucking monsters.

The PCT periodically intersects with other trails along the way. This section incorporates a portion of the Tahoe Rim Trail, and crossed over the Pony Express.

Tom and I celebrated these milestones with huge ice creams and plates of barbecue in the nearby town of South Lake Tahoe before heading out to a gorgeous camp spot for the evening.
